Challenges Faced By Team On Bootcamp Project

Bootcamp experience week 1: A call to action

I was glad and overwhelmed with joy when I heard of another 4-weeks to explore digital marketing and content creation called bootcamp. I’d never enrolled for one before. It will run for another 4 weeks. The Journey to becoming a certified digital marketer and content creator began 4 weeks with Side Hustle. It has been an astonishing, fun-filled, interactive, educative and impactful experience I will encourage anyone to take. Being under the mentorship of the wonderful Peculiar Richard was breathtaking. Our thoughts about bootcamp were that all you have to do is to practice what you’ve learned so far in the internship program within a few hours, but as newbies in the system, we got it wrong.

The bootcamp program was all about showcasing what you’ve learned, practicing it professionally, as a team or individual (depending on what type of package you paid for). The standard bootcamp and premium bootcamp packages all came with their specifications, with opportunities to connect with other interns and also job opportunities. Every member of my team took part in the bootcamp program, not minding the cost to achieve the best skill ever.

Like they say, genuine progress comes at a cost, and we all can’t wait to show the world what we’ve got.

Getting into Slack wasn’t easy too and boom I and all other members were added to the digital-marketing-and-cc-team 13. The most amazing team ever. We were grouped into clusters of 8–10 people for the weekly task ahead. On the bootcamp official first day, Drey dropped the first task for the week. That came fast, I thought.

The task was to “Create a Digital Marketing Plan for flutterwave and a Content Calendar for flutterwave’s social media platforms for May.” It must include a newsletter twice a week, and a blog post thrice a week.

The issue we all had was how to start writing: blog posts, newsletters, content calendar (all these also include social media strategy, buyer persona and so on). Through rigorous video, some of us could come up with content. Ideas were just flying around the group like birds. Everyone wanted to contribute a portion to completing our task. Considering we had 5-days to complete the task, the team got to work like soldiers going to a battlefield. Delegating each member to different phases of the practical part of the case study which we agreed to, sharing of experiences and helping each other with their tasks for a unique result is so powerful, here I got to see firsthand how creative and skilled my bootcamp gang is, our team lead, assistant team leads and other members were effective, cooperative, and loving. We had to submit the demanding task on or before the deadline. None of us had a perfect night’s rest, but guess what? It was worth it.

I experienced first hand how fast-paced the bootcamp was. Was it helpful? Of course, it has helped my team members and me, collectively and in a way individually. We experienced what real-life digital marketing and content creation look like. Working in teams with limited timelines while still putting out the best possible work. Not leaving behind necessary tools we discovered like the hashnode, content calendar among others. Getting around these tools wasn’t easy either, but we found our way around it regardless.

Being a digital expert and content creation is really a demanding task and invigorating as well, but we move onto the next train.

Our next goal is to do much better than we did in week 1 task and be the best. We know we can do that. I’m sure week two holds a lot.

Stay tuned.
